This project focuses on organisational and cultural aspects of maritime
safety - both cargo and passenger shipping. Our approach is based on a
system view of maritime safety covering levels such as crew, shipping
companies, classification societies, national maritime administrations
and the international maritime organisation (IMO). The project is
carried out in close co-operation with the maritime sector and the goal
is to develop knowledge for implementation. The project could be
described in four parts.
Part 1. Safety and work organisation in
the merchant shipping - development, current situation and suggestions
for improvements. Responsible: Göran Jense
Part 2. Cultural
management and safety management in cargo shipping. Responsible: Bengt
Erik Stenmark
Part 3. Safety culture and safety management in the
passenger shipping. ResponsibleÅsa Ek
Part 4. International
comparative study of the maritime safety regulatory framework provided
by the ISM Code and the status of its operation and implementation in
the shipping industry. Responsible Max Mejia
For domain knowledge
and guidance the project has a reference group with members from
relevant unions (employers' and employees'), from the Swedish Mercantile
Marine Foundation, and from the Swedish Maritime Safety Inspectorate.
